Resistance and fear of success

The more I think about things, the more convinced I become that resistance and self-sabotage are real when it comes to achieving goals. I am not saying this is true for everyone. Most people do not even bother with questions like these. For them, I think it can be easier because they often arrive at the same conclusions without the long thinking process. Or maybe it is even better for them. Resistance and fear of success might not exist at all because they do not see success as something huge or intimidating.

And honestly, great success can be simple: having a family and raising good new people, paying the bills, and having a decent car and a home.

But some of us think about starting something on our own. We want to produce something, build something, make more of life, live with a sense of freedom, almost like retirement before retirement. On the way there, that famous resistance always seems to show up. We have subconscious beliefs that prevent us from taking the final step, from pushing through what Seth Godin calls “The Dip.”

And then we get stuck, afraid, in this shallow mud, watching people walk past us like it is nothing. Watching them become successful without seeming to struggle at all.

Some people simply do not think so much, and they do not create that mud for themselves. They do what they feel they need to do, and it looks smooth and effortless.

So much is in our minds. The more we think, the harder it can get. Sometimes it is best to relax, notice the thoughts, and let them be. Maybe that is the only way we stop caring about the mud at all.

Stay awesome!
