Principles
We live in instant times. When we want something, we think we must get it immediately. I guess it all started with instant coffee. 😄
We scroll through shorts for hours and still crave more afterward. Our dopamine systems are getting fried. For most people, it’s really hard to just sit still and be quiet with themselves. What will our long-term future look like if most people behave like this?
Most people don’t even notice they’re being slowly cooked like a frog in a pot. The water gets warmer and warmer, and before you know it, it’s boiling.
One thing that concerns me is the definition of “democracy,” often described as the majority ruling over the minority. But who is the majority?
What I really want to write about is that maybe more than ever, our personal principles matter. If we don’t set our own principles, what will our lives become? Just mindlessly scrolling on a phone?
Principles are tightly connected to compounding. The results of living by principles might not be visible right away, but over time, they compound. We become better at what we strive for. We get better at swimming in warm water, and eventually we can jump out and be free.
Merry Christmas!
Stay awesome.
