Living in the now
For most of us, living in the present moment can be one of the hardest things to do. It takes so much effort and so much concentration. It seems that our whole lives we are programmed to think about the past or the future. But in a way, both of those are illusions.
We cannot really have true knowledge of the past. Even the past we remember is so subjective that it can only be relevant to us. And if you think deeply, even the way you remember your past can be wrong, or partly made up in your mind. Somehow, bad experiences often leave a deeper mark in our memories than good ones. We instantly recall our failures and awkward moments.
The same goes for the future. We predict what will happen and make plans, but the future is fragile and uncertain. It can change in an instant. Even on the smaller scale of our personal lives, we cannot truly know where we are going. Imagine each decision as a point on a branch that can split in two directions. Each time we choose one path, the other remains unchosen, and then the next choice appears, and the next. With every decision, we leave behind countless possible outcomes. But we are living this one path, right now, in this moment.
The past and the future are not here. This moment is.
Be more present. It is the real stuff.
Stay awesome!
