Life is not a rehearsal

I have no idea who or when made us believe that we must always be prepared for something. Life is not a rehearsal. It is the real thing, a show without practice. We are here now, doing what we believe is our best work.

I still blame school for this mindset. There, we are expected to be prepared for every class. Prepare this, prepare that… When you hear that for almost two decades, something sticks. And it sticks deep.

Then one day, you realize that you don’t actually have to be prepared for everything. In fact, most of the time it is even better if you are not. There is never a perfect moment for major decisions in life. So in a way, it is always the right time.

Still, it is incredibly hard to get rid of that deeply rooted instinct telling you to wait until you are ready, to wait for the “right time.”

The more I observe life, the more I think this is the real trap. Nobody knows what will happen if we take that step, make that decision, or move to the next level. With every decision, a new universe opens, along with countless new possibilities.

One big realization I had today is that a decision, in reality, means moving away from something. When we decide, we are not only choosing one path, we are also leaving others behind. Mind-blowing… more on that next time.

Stay awesome!
