Failure
"Failure is simply a few errors in judgment, repeated every day." Jim Rohn
This quote about failure is simple, yet deeply insightful. It feels like it offers a key to avoiding failure altogether. At the same time, when we try to apply it in real life, we realize it is much harder than it first appears.
We cannot recognize errors in judgment if we do not know what our desired behavior is. And even more importantly, we must be aware of our actions in order to notice those errors.
The second important idea in this quote is “every day.” This points to consistency. It is not enough to act correctly once and feel proud of ourselves. To avoid failure over the long term, we must consistently practice the behaviors we know are right.
A third thought that comes to mind is that we often cannot define our desired behavior without failing from time to time. Failure can teach us what works and what does not. However, it is essential that we learn from it. Being aware of our mistakes and still repeating them is perhaps the worst outcome of all.
Stay awesome!
