Ego
The biggest enemy of our dreams is not failure. It is resistance. Some time ago I wrote about the resistance that stops us from achieving our goals, wishes, and aspirations. These days I came across a book titled Do the Work. It’s written by the same author who wrote about resistance, Steven Pressfield. The book works as a kind of manual that guides us through the stages where resistance is waiting for us.
Reading the book made me realize that this idea of resistance is not just theoretical. It is something I experience in my own life almost every time I try to start something important. It seems strange that we have some kind of mind inside our mind that tells us we cannot succeed or be successful. It’s hard to imagine that we carry this other voice within us that is actually responsible for so many things we never do.
The only way forward is to ignore that voice of resistance and have enough drive to go after what we want at all costs. Even if we fail, we should remember that failure is still a valuable lesson. Personally, I have never completely beaten resistance. But maybe once you overcome that voice once, twice, or a few times, it becomes easier. Each time you defeat it, it grows smaller and moves further away. At the same time, I believe that the longer we wait with a big decision, the bigger and louder that voice becomes.
We only have one life. We should not let that strange voice in our heads control us. This is not a rehearsal. This is the real deal.
Stay awesome!
